2022     Smithsonian Hirshhorn Museum (Teen Artlab Collective)

ARTLAB
COLLECTIVE

NEXT PROJECT

Introduction

Spring 2022 I had the privilege of being a student intern in the Hirshhorn museum.

Throughout this experience, I was able to generate new ideas for teen audience targeted exhibits and events at the Hirshhorn museum, and present them to the museum board.

Processes

Firstly, we were split into groups and had to choose a topic to center our generative idea on in relation to developing new experiences for teen audiences.

The images to the right show possible ideas that we thought up before deciding on a final one.

During this time we also toured many of the exhibits on display at the Hirshhorn to gather inspiration for our projects.

My group (1 of 3 in the program) then developed our topic of choice, which was the Teen Instagram page (later would become a Teen Website, but with same premises).

Two other components of our proposal were also developed, which are explained below.

  • Teens primarily use Instagram so it will reach our target audience: artists and/or teens.

FINAL PROPOSAL

In the end we decided to develop a communications proposal as our final project.  We further expanded on the idea of creating outreach for Teen Events, as well as developing teen events and exhibits that would work to bring teen audiences into the museum.  They are shown below:

This project taught me how to generate ideas for events on much larger scale than a college campus or high school environment.     As these proposals are implemented by the Hirshhorn and the following years of the Teen ArtLab Collective, I will appreciate seeing the ideas I created to further engage teen audiences come to life.
